All About Rachel

I’ve always been a bit of a chameleon. I moved around a lot as a kid and continued that tradition through my early adulthood. I always thought I would grow out of that. As it turns out, my adaptability and willingness to start over has become one of my greatest strengths.

At the age of 36, my husband and I made the decision to leave the life we had built to start a grand adventure. I left my career as an ICU nurse (12 years proudly served) and we sold our house. We packed up our three kids and moved to rural Kentucky to pursue a childhood dream of starting a small farm. As romantic as it sounds, I must be honest that it was exceptionally challenging.

Now, a year on our farm, we look over the path that led us here and grin ear to ear. We chose to document the process and our social media presence centers around the nitty-gritty of learning a new way of life. We started small with compost bins, clothes lines, and breaking ground for my first garden. Now we are growing 2,000 square feet of food and raising pigs, chickens and rabbits. We have learned to build barns, can food, bake bread, trim hooves and set up electric fences. The greatest part of it all, we have learned to live with the rhythm and blessings of the seasons.
