Prickly pear has been one of the most elusive flavors for us to dupe. We have been working and testing every flavor combination we could think of for the last year trying to get it right. At first, cactus water seemed like the obvious pick, but it was lacking that pop of tart flavor. We moved on trying different mixes in the melon family, and everything was slightly sweeter. It was sometimes close, but never right on….until now! Finally, we found the perfect match.

For example, you would mix 1/2 tsp. Jolly Rancher watermelon with 1/4 tsp. Great Value lemonade. The Jolly Rancher watermelon gives that light but sweet fruity taste while the lemonade brings the tartness, making it the perfect combination of sweet and tart like the prickly pear drink mix. Note that other brands of watermelon, like Crush, were too sweet in our opinion.
Ironically, we have used this flavor duo in some popular teas like Witch Please and Teacher’s Pet. Remember, you can use our Tea Finder feature to search recipes by any flavor!
